Could an AFC Bournemouth favourite be on the move to a Premier League rival?

Mark Travers claimed a near clean sweep of awards following the Cherries promotion season from the Championship in 2021/22.

Travers made 46 appearances during the season, keeping 21 clean sheets in the process as the Cherries would go on to finish second in the Championship and win promotion to the top flight of English football.

Travers impressed so much throughout the campaign that he won the vote for the AFC Bournemouth Supporters Player of the Season, AFC Bournemouth Vice-Presidents Player of the Season and the Daily Echo’s Micky Cave Player of the Season awards, only missing out on the Junior Cherries Player of the Season award which was won by striker Dominic Solanke, who became the first striker in 15 years to net 30 goals in a single campaign.

Travers also won the English Football League Championship Golden Glove award with 20 clean sheets in 45 Championship appearances, beating both Huddersfield Town’s Lee Nicholls and Sheffield United’s Wes Foderingham who had 18.

However, following the departure of Scott Parker, Travers lost his place as number 1 between the sticks to new summer signing Neto.

The veteran ‘keeper not only took the number 1 slot, but also claimed the captain’s armband from Lloyd Kelly, showing just how well thought of he was by AFC Bournemouth head coach Gary O’Neil.

The 33-year-old went on to sign a three-year contract extension at Dean Court, leaving Travers as the firm second choice.

Now 24-years-old with aspirations to become Republic of Ireland’s first choice, Travers has to seek regular first-team football at this stage of his career and could he find it at newly promoted Premier League side Luton Town?

According to Luton Today, the club are“…believed to be casting an eye over Bournemouth stopper Mark Travers…”

Luton are in search of a new shot-stopper as Ethan Horvath, who kept 20 clean sheets in 51 matches was on loan to Luton from Nottingham Forest and he has subsequently returned to his parent club.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Travers isn’t the only goalkeeper that Luton are interested in.

They have reported that “Luton Town have held talks over Asmir Begovic arriving as a free transfer”.

The now 35-year-old is leaving Everton this summer, having made just 4 league appearances since leaving the Cherries two years ago.
