Back in August, Neto joined the Cherries from Barcelona on a free transfer.

The 33-year-old flew in from Spain to have his medical ahead of signing a one-year deal at Dean Court.

He was signed under former AFC Bournemouth head coach Scott Parker, but didn’t make his Premier League debut until Parker was sacked and Gary O’Neil took over, initially on a temporary basis before being handed the role permanently.

Having displaced Mark Travers as the club’s number one goalkeeper, after Travers had taken a near-clean sweep of all of the end-of-season awards for 2021/22, Neto would also go on to be named as team captain under O’Neil, with Lloyd Kelly losing the armband.

With the added responsibility, Neto has flourished in England and has made 17 Premier League appearances so far during this 2022/23 campaign. Making this his busiest season in regards to first-team appearances since he left Valencia for Barcelona in 2019.

Having played second fiddle at many clubs during his career, such as at Fiorentina, Juventus and Barcelona, Neto appears to be enjoying regular first-team football during the latter stages of his career, a career that has now been extended for a further three years with the Brazilian signing a new contract on the south coast.

AFC Bournemouth Chief Executive Neill Blake told afcb.co.uk

“We are delighted that Neto has chosen to commit for a further three years. He has been an important addition this season, putting in some outstanding performances on the pitch.

“He’s also proven to be a great leader in and around the dressing room and he’s highly respected across the club.

“For a player of Neto’s quality to want to extend his time at AFC Bournemouth is testament to the progress being made at the club.”

Great to hear that he and his family feel settled and happy here, was always a potential hurdle to his staying here.

Great stability and a great foundation for us for another three years.
If Travers steps up, we have a top, top-quality backup!
Also, three more years of the happiest keeper we have ever had and probably ever will have

He is a really positive character and we seem to play better when he plays.
Unlike some on here, I’ve no idea what he’ll be earning, but spending it on him seems to me to be one of the safer bets we could possibly make.

Congrats to the club for securing his services!

Really pleased with the news, keeping the new Boruc here for another 3 seasons : )

Top keeper, great pedigree, good at organising his defence, shot stopping. Probably not perfect but if he was, he wouldn’t be leaving Barcelona for us : )

Seems like a positive happy character, enjoy his celebrations when we score, and when we win. Love watching players with those attitudes : )

I hope/trust the club are covering the financial bases with some kind of (hopefully unnecessary) clause in the event of relegation.

With that out the way, this is fantastic news. Classy, classy keeper. Really surprised we’ve convinced him to sign long-term. Another Foley statement. – To join the conversation, click here.
