AFC Bournemouth are reportedly in talks with Roma over a potential permanent deal for 24-year-old Justin Kluivert, son of Netherlands legend Patrick.

Justin Kluivert is a product of the famous youth system at Ajax. But like many products of that set-up, he quickly moved away from the Dutch Eredivisie and in 2018 Kluivert moved to Italian Serie A side Roma for a reported fee of €18.75 million.

He started his career with Roma very brightly indeed, becoming the youngest Roma player to score in the UEFA Champions League after in a 5–0 win over Viktoria Plzeň.

Overall he made 68 appearances for the club, but more recently has been out on loan, ticking off experience in all of Europe’s top divisions, making moves to Leipzig in Germany, Nice in France and Valencia in Spain.

In total in all competitions, which include the Eredivisie, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, La Liga, UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League he has made 195 appearances, scored 35 goals and claimed 22 assists.

He has also represented the Netherlands Under-17, Under-19, Under-21 and full international levels.

Last week he was linked with a potential move to AFC Bournemouth by Italian journalist Nicolo Schira. Kluivert is well known for holding aspirations to play in the English Premier League having previously held talks with Fulham last season.

That interest has now escalated to reportedly holding talks with Roma over a potential transfer.

Last year he turned down multiple bids to leave Roma as he wanted to play in the Premier League and Fulham bid for him – I think the fee was £10M plus add-ons (so about €13-15M). However on the day the transfer window closed his agent who had been advising him to reject all offers outside the Premier League discovered Kluivert wasn’t eligible for a work visa (he is now!) and so Roma we’re forced to extend his contract by a year and send him to Spain. He was keen to join Fulham last year as he thinks his game is suited to the premier league so I think this could be a good punt (though of course not for 25M!) however there is a bit of risk involved. – To join the conversation, click here.
