The AFC Bournemouth squad return back to training on Monday, but things will be very different from the last time the Cherries trained.

Three weeks ago, the Cherries beat Everton at Goodison Park on the final day of the prolonged 2019/20 Premier League season, the result, unfortunately, saw AFC Bournemouth relegated.

AFC Bournemouth defender Steve Cook spoke after that the game of his hope that Eddie Howe would remain as manager.

Fast forward to the return of the squad for pre-season training ahead of the 2020/21 Championship campaign, Eddie Howe has left, assistant manager Jason Tindall has been promoted to manager and centre back partner Nathan Ake has been sold to Manchester City for £40million.

AFC Bournemouth fans player of the season Aaron Ramsdale is potentially moving to Sheffield United, after a £18.5million bid was accepted, whilst forward duo Joshua King and Callum Wilson are expected to leave Dean Court before the end of the transfer window on 16th October.

There could yet be even more upheaval to the squad with more players leaving Dean Court before that window slams shut. It all depends on what offers are put on the table from elsewhere and AFC Bournemouth’s financial status with an immediate loss of at least £60million in television revenue.

But despite the departures and uncertainty, AFC Bournemouth defender Steve Cook is returning to training excited.

Cook told afcb.co.uk

“I’m excited. I know he will bring his own ideas and try to take the team in his own direction.

“I’ve been coached a lot by him over the years because he focused on the defensive side and the set-plays. I’ve got to know him extremely well, both on and off the pitch…

“…When he coached us, the drills he put on were his ideas and now he can put all his ideas into place because he’s very tactically-minded.

“His sessions were always fun as well and that’s important because you need to keep players engaged.

“He’s got a great footballing brain as well so I’m looking forward to the challenges he’s going to put in place for us…”
