AFC Bournemouth have completed their sixth signing of the summer transfer window so far, in what has been reported to be dramatic circumstances.

The Cherries had already completed the signings of Hamed Traorè from Serie A side Sassuolo for £21 million, Justin Kluivert for £ 9.5 million from Roma, Romain Faivre from Olympique Lyonnais for a fee in the region of £ 13 million, Milos Kerkez for £14 million from AZ Alkmaar and Alex Scott from Bristol City for a fee potentially rising to £25 million.

The signing of Max Aarons from Norwich City, may well have pushed AFC Bournemouth’s spending north of £90 million so far, with reports suggesting the deal is worth an initial £ 7 million and potentially rising to £ 12 million with potential add-ons.

AFC Bournemouth were linked with a move for Aaron’s during the January transfer window along with Fulham and German outfit Borussia Monchengladbach according to British tabloid newspaper The Sun, however, the 23-year-old opted to remain with Norwich City and run his contract down to less than 12 months.

Earlier in the summer he had been heavily linked with a move to Southampton before interest from former manager Daniel Farke had seemingly had the deal wrapped up to take him to Leeds United.

He was reportedly in the process of completing his medical before AFC Bournemouth “hijacked” the deal, with Premier League football seemingly enough to turn his head and intentions.

The Cherries had reportedly previously been enquiring about Danish 26-year-old full-back Joakim Mæhle, but opted against a move to complete a deal for Aarons.

AFC Bournemouth chief executive Neill Black told afcb.co.uk

“We are thrilled to welcome Max to the club.

“He’s a player who will be an excellent fit in our system, with physical attributes and technical ability that will benefit the team and our style of play.

“We’re looking forward to working with him and we have no doubt that Max is going to prove a great addition to the squad.”

Bill Foley is certainly splashing the cash. He obviously has great faith in our recruitment team, which shouldn’t really be a surprise given their excellent record in recent years. Exciting times are ahead. – To join the conversation, click here.
