It might not be July yet, but the 2023 summer transfer window is open and AFC Bournemouth have started to complete some deals.

The first is in the goalkeeping department, with the first team boasting experienced pairing Neto and Darren Randolph, with Mark Travers competing for the number one shirt. This leaves Will Dennis somewhat surplus to requirements at this stage and needing to leave in search of playing time.

The 22-year-old, who has been with the Cherries for seven years has joined Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock on a season-long loan deal.

Meanwhile, AFC Bournemouth have now announced the signing of Justin Kluivert.

The 24-year-old has officially joined for an undisclosed fee and has signed a non-descript “long-term contract”. Italian-based journalist Fabrizio Romano has however reported that the fee is £ 9.5 million, which will increase by an additional £850,000 in add-ons, whilst Kluivert has penned a five-year deal on the south coast.

AFC Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake told afcb.co.uk

“We are delighted to have made Justin our first signing ahead of the new season.

“He was coveted by a number of clubs across Europe and his arrival is a sign of his ambition, which is matched by ours.

“Justin is an exciting and versatile attacking player who has an eye for goal. He is pacey, direct and boasts a high level of technical ability.

“Although he only recently turned 24, Justin has a wealth of experience and has played domestically at the highest level in five different countries.

“He has also played in the Champions League and Europa League as well as being capped by his country at senior level.

“We are all very much looking forward to working with Justin, a player we believe will be a great addition to our squad and someone our supporters will enjoy watching.”

Justin Kluivert is a product of the famous youth system at Ajax. But like many products of that set-up, he quickly moved away from the Dutch Eredivisie and in 2018 Kluivert moved to Italian Serie A side Roma for a reported fee of €18.75 million.

He started his career with Roma very brightly indeed, becoming the youngest Roma player to score in the UEFA Champions League after in a 5–0 win over Viktoria Plzeň.

Overall he made 68 appearances for the club, but more recently has been out on loan, ticking off experience in all of Europe’s top divisions, making moves to Leipzig in Germany, Nice in France and Valencia in Spain.

In total in all competitions, which include the Eredivisie, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, La Liga, UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League he has made 195 appearances, scored 35 goals and claimed 22 assists.

He has also represented the Netherlands Under-17, Under-19, Under-21 and full international levels.

Your say…

Obviously hope he does well but he has also had 3 loan moves where none of the clubs took up the option to buy. 9m is still 6m less than Ibe though and he’d have to be horrifically bad to be worse than him.

It can take being under the right environment. With Iraola’s desire to focus play down the wings the could really play into Kluivert’s strengths. – To join the conversation, click here.
