Bristol City fan GarlandsPerm signed up to our forum and shared the following on new signing Alex Scott

Congratulations, I actually think you’ve made a bit of a steal and got a jump on some other Clubs.

I actually thought a Newcastle or Spurs may invest in him, I believe he’s that good, and certainly has sufficient potential.

I’ve watched City for 55 years now, scouted for several League Clubs, and Alex Scott…… probably, …..almost certainly the best footballer, certainly for his age that I’ve seen at Ashton Gate over those years.

Add to the fact that he’s one of the nicest most intelligent, humble, and articulate lads you could wish for and he ticks many boxes.

(Being a good lad, humble and intelligent doesn’t equate to a push over on a football pitch though, he has that bit of fire in him, a real competitive edge, and the attitude of a winner )

He’s one of those players that anyone who understands the game and has seen plenty of football, on first viewing develops a quiet satisfied grin as they glance at fellow fans who share that recognition.

Can play any of the midfield roles with I suggest his best role as an 8 seeing plenty of ball and dictating on the ball in the oppositions half, can play as a holder but probably wasted there.

What I would describe as a ‘natural footballer, , at total ease with the ball at his feet, looking like the kid in the playground who is just head and shoulders above those around him.

I wouldn’t expect him to dance past 2 or 3 and stick one in the top corner from 25 yds every week (Though he’s capable of those moments) but you will enjoy his first touch, his intelligent movement, creating space and angles for teammates, his passing and particularly his ability to drive past players and break lines. He will win lots of free kicks with his close control and use of his body a la Grealish.

Expect him to beat a player, or two but be looking to slide in a teammate.

If there is any criticism of him you could argue that he could be a tad more selfish but I can’t really criticise him for that.

Great game awareness and doesn’t shy from any physicality.

He’s a facilitator for the team always wanting the ball and looking to provide fluidity rather than someone only interested in personal glory, talented, a baller, but above all a team player.

I will be following him with you closely, as much as any player that’s left us in the last 30-40 years as I am really intrigued by how he settles in Premier League, and how far he can go.

Of course a big leap from Championship to Premier League but from City’s first team at 18, and immediately a permanent fixture, to his influence for England at each age group he’s looked totally comfortable, influential, and at total ease, still looking like he’s playing with mates in the playground.

Despite his true humbleness, you recognise that on a football pitch, he quietly believes internally he’s the best, or up there as the best player on the pitch.

Absolutely gutted that he’s gone but it’s the real world, and he absolutely deserves the chance to continue to progress his career and it has been an absolute pleasure to watch him,as I’ve indicated,……. for us, a generational talent.

Enjoy him, for those expecting wild tricks and fireworks you may be disappointed, but those who appreciate a ‘footballer’ I think are really really going to appreciate him and enjoy watching him. – To join the conversation, click here.

Norwich City supporter Sooty57 also popped on to the forum to share his thoughts on new signing Max Aarons…

You have got yourself a very professional & loyal young player in Max. Always gave his all on the pitch and never lost his head, even when rumours were rife of approaches from Spurs, Barcelona and a host of other top teams.
Very rarely injured. A good, robust little defender who can also make things happen going forwards.
If he is half as good for you as he has been for us then you have got yourself a bargain. – To join the conversation, click here.
