AFC Bournemouth travelled to Burnley for a fifth-round FA Cup tie under the continued guidance of caretaker manager Jonathan Woodgate, who had previously steered the Cherries to three points against Birmingham.
Woodgate wasn’t afraid to make changes for the cup game, with six in total, despite a Quarter-Final place on the line.
Out went Lloyd Kelly and Jack Stacey from both full-back roles, with Diego Rico and Jack Stacey in, out went Lewis Cook and Jack Wilshere from the central midfield, replaced by Ben Pearson and Philip Billing. In attack, Arnaut Danjuma and Shane Long were replaced by Junior Stanislas and Sam Surridge.
After the match, Woodgate told the Daily Echo…
βIt was really impressive. I thought we were first-class, Right from the start of the game, we had a game plan of how we wanted to play.
βI thought we were compact, good behind the ball. I canβt remember a save Asmir had to make.
βI thought we could have been two or three up at half-time from counter-attacking down the sides.
βItβs just nice to win football matches really and increase the confidence in the players.
βWith back-to-back wins against a tough Birmingham side and then to come here and win 2-0, itβs got to breed confidence around the dressing room.β

I’m still struggling to see where that performance came from. Absolutely fantastic, dominant and assured performance. Billing probably with the game of his life.
I’m still in shock, to be honest. Fantastic stuff. Now let’s continue like this in the league. Come oooooooon !!!!!!

What a thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyable match to watch. Total control from beginning to end. Do we have a team that actually looks like it wants to play together again? Some outstanding performances, Pearson, Surridge, Lerma but the most improved player and MOM it has to be Billing. To go to Burnley and outplay the raspy ginger whingers anti footballers is a huge achievement. Well done lads – Join the conversation, click here.
