Bournemouth agree deal to sell winger

|

Just a few short weeks ago AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe was quoted that Connor Mahoney had given Howe the belief that his future could be in the Premier League with the Cherries.

Howe had been talking after an impressive loan spell with Birmingham City in the Championship.

Howe, however, did add that he would be sitting down with Mahoney to discuss the next step.

Is that next step actually towards the exit door at Dean Court?

The 22-year-old made the move to Dean Court in 2017 from Blackburn Rovers, for a fee set by a tribunal at £425,000.

That fee could rise to close to £1million if Mahoney were to make 50 appearances for the Cherries.

A further £250,000 will be due if he breaks into the England fold and Blackburn Rovers hold a 20% sell on clause.

He has only made two appearances for AFC Bournemouth since his move and it is a big step up from the Championship to the Premier League for many.

A move back down to the second tier of English football could well suit Mahoney’s development and the Daily Mail have reported that a deal is being finalised with Millwall.

The report did not state how much the transfer could be for or whether or not Mahoney has yet to agree on personal terms.

Your say…

Considering he did reasonably well at Birmingham ( by all accounts he will have progressed somewhat in his time there ) it could be that Eddie would be happy enough to keep him around but maybe the player just wants to play football matches and we have agreed not to stand in his way if he can organise a move.
I have a feeling this probably wasn’t instigated by us but by the player himself.
If we did instigate it and were looking to offload him, then yes, you would have to assume that some other winger could be inbound.
I always rated his attitude, he seemed very keen to make an impression here and seemed to be a hard grafter. He seemed to be the type of character Eddie appreciates in what little I saw of him. – Join the conversation, click here.
