AFCB had their first win under temporary manager Jonathan Woodgate in the Championship against Birmingham City, our club’s next fixture is away from the league and back to FA Cup action. Our opponents in the 5th Round are Burnley and the game is at Turf Moor. Burnley have won the Cup once in the 1913-14 season and been runners up twice, 1946-47 and 1961-62.
In their game in the 3rd Round, Burnley’s opponents at their Turf Moor ground were MK Dons, the game finished in a 1-1 draw after extra time, Burnley went through on penalties. Up until the fourth minute of injury time, the Dons were winning 0-1 through a 29th-minute goal from Jerome, but Vydra equalised in the 94th minute.
Burnley were drawn away to fellow Premier League side Fulham in the 4th Round. Burnley lasted into the 5th Round with a 0-3 victory with two goals from Rodriguez, including one from a penalty and the other goal scored by Long.
So our team come up again against Burnley manager Sean Dyche who will have been at the club nine years in October. This meeting will be without the old Burnley connection of Eddie Howe and Jason Tindall in charge of AFCB. The last time we met Burnley in the FA Cup was back in January 2005 at their ground, the Clarets were in the Championship and the AFCB in League 1, Burnley won with two goals from Ian Moore. We had met them on two previous occasions, the first in January 1966 at Dean Court and the game finished in a 1-1 draw, the replay at Burnley they beat us 7-0. Before that in January 1961 the Cherries were again the visitors and lost 1-0.

Players who have been out are Chris Wood, Robbie Brady, Charlie Taylor and Josh Brownhill. Wood it seems will definitely not be available, the others slight doubts.

This should see a start for Sam Surridge and also our new signing Ben Pearson who has not played in the FA Cup for his old club this season and also needs match fitness as not featured for Preston since December.

I’d keep Begovic, Cook and CCV all in place as a unit. The only way that area is going to improve and cut out the mistakes is with game time and consistency.
Surridge needs a good go. I’d start Stanislas to give him some minutes to play into form after injury. Protect him by swapping with Brooks second half, and he’s another who needs some playing into form.
