AFC Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams may have only played 39 minutes for the Cherries since his August 2023 move from Leeds United for ยฃ 20 million+, but he started and scored for the United States of America in the CONCACAF Nations League Final on Sunday.

Due to his troublesome hamstring injury, his national side haven’t seen much of Adams either. This was in fact Adams making his first start for his national side in 475 days.

Adams was substituted at half-time as a precautionary measure, with AFC Bournemouth and the USA reportedly in correspondence over how much time he could feature for his country.

According to ESPN, USMNT manager Gregg Berhalter had agreed to the minutes limit with AFC Bournemouth prior to Adams joining up with the National team.

USA went on to win the game 2-0.

Speaking to ESPN after the game, Adams said…

“I’m not scoring goals like that all the time, but I’m happy I can hit one like that today,”

“I always get up for big games.”

“People have a lot of question marks about this, about that, But to see what we do week in, week out when we have the opportunity to work together, we continue to grow.”

Speaking about his half-time substitution, Adams added…

“Coming out at halftime was obviously disappointing, especially after scoring a goal and helping the team, So, yeah, I understand we have to be smart for the long-term plan.”

Berhalter added…

“As much as I wanted him in the game, because I did, it’s a safety thing. We want to make sure that he gets back in a healthy way because he has a lot more games to play.”
