At the end of August, AFC Bournemouth confirmed their seventh signing of the summer, United States of America international Tyler Adams for a reported £23 million from Championship side Leeds United.

The 24-year-old signed a five-year contract after leaving Elland Road having made 26 appearances in all competitions in a campaign that ended with Leeds United’s relegation from the Premier League and the United States of America captain suffering a hamstring injury.

Adams hadn’t featured since the second week of March with the injury and was thought to be edging closer to a Premier League debut with the Cherries when he made a 20-minute substitute appearance for AFC Bournemouth against Stoke City in the Football League Cup on Wednesday.

However, following that match he appears to have aggravated the hamstring and is now set to be out for some time.

The prolonged injury absence leaves AFC Bournemouth short of numbers in central midfield with Alex Scott, a summer signing from Bristol City also unavailable due to injury.

Speaking to the Daily Echo, AFC Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola told the Daily Echo

“I don’t know what to call it, a setback, but he is not feeling well.

“He has been out for a lot of time, so we have to reassess, to reset, to take the good decisions, thinking in everything.

“It is true that he is going to be out for some time, for sure.

“I think it’s the same area.

“I couldn’t tell you if it’s exactly the same point, but it’s true that it’s his hamstring that he is not feeling well.”

So we’re back to essentially not having a defensive ball-winning midfielder for a while. For an underdog side more games than not, that’s an awkward position to be in.

Adams / the club rushing his return a little? You like to think the sports science people are all over this stuff in this day and age. – To join the conversation, click here.
