Bournemouth new signing set to return in coming weeks?

Is AFC Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola about to finally receive some good news in regard to the injury front?

Could £20 million summer signing Alex Scott be “scheduled to be available for selection towards the end of this month“? That’s what the Bristol Post have reported in an article about the former Bristol City player.

The Cherries were rumoured to hold an interest in Scott for at least 9 months before finally securing the signature of the England Under-20 international.

The Cherries had had numerous reported approaches rejected by Bristol City. But the move was finally completed in the summer, despite Scott suffering a knee injury during pre-season.

Speaking to the BBC as quoted by the local newspaper, Scott said…

“…thankfully the move did happen eventually.

“Obviously, I found out the news about my knee as well, which didn’t help with the whole situation but as soon as the move had got over the line, I was just so delighted and it felt like a lot of weight off my shoulders and I could relax a little bit more and come into a new place, get to know the lads, get to know the city. I love it here, I’ve been here a month now and I’m just enjoying it more and more every week…”

The 19-year-old previously spent time with both Southampton and the Cherries during his teenage years, before opting to return to the Channel island’s.

As a 16-year-old he left Guernsey for a second time to join Bristol City and it wasn’t long before he broke into the first-team, age 17, making his Championship debut in April 2021.

He has gone on to make 91 appearances in all competitions for the Ashton Gate side and has also represented England at under-18, under-19, and under-20 level making 16 appearances including three at the recent under-20 World Cup.

Scott is having to be patient to make his first Premier League appearance, but that sounds like it could be edging closer, if he is indeed scheduled to be available for selection towards the end of this month“, that could put him in contention for the home fixture against newly promoted Burnley, if not a week earlier against former AFC Bournemouth head coach Gary O’Neil’s Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Scott spoke of the delay to starting his AFC Bournemouth career by saying…

“…Honestly, it’s the worst, being injured but you’ve got to look at it as a way of improving yourself in other areas. I’ve never had a proper injury longer than a week or two weeks, so I’ve been smashing the gym, building myself up – lower body, upper body – getting as strong as I can and as physically-ready to play, It’s going to be a step up. I’m not stupid, I know it’s going to be much harder in the Premier League so I’ve got to be as ready as I can. I’ve just got on with it, tried to get through it and looked at every day as a chance to improve a different area of my game.

“Luckily I’m back on the pitches now, doing some ball work now so that makes it a little bit easier. It’s the final stretch to getting back fit and I just can’t wait to get going; can’t wait to prove to everyone what I can do at the highest level.”

For what it’s worth, I actually think his injury is a blessing in many ways, a young lad moving to a different place and club, in the Premier League, with what that brings, gives him time to do that before he concentrates on his football

Also gives him time to watch his teammates, in training and games, learn their attributes and styles, the team shape, and still able to attend all the teams briefs and match day prep etc without the actual pressure to perform
