AFC Bournemouth defender Adam Smith has had surgery on his knee following a reoccurrence of a knee injury.

The 30-year-old signed a new two-year contract at Dean Court in July, but has only played 7 league games this season due to injury problems.

He played on the 2nd October against Sheffield United and didn’t feature again until the 3rd December against Fulham, however, Smith suffered a setback after that game and required surgery to fix the problem.

The Cherries have not put a timeframe on when Smith is expected to return from injury, but things do sound hopeful that he will return at some stage this season.

AFC Bournemouth head coach Scott Parker told the Daily Echo

“He’s had surgery now.

“He’s come out of the surgery and surgery went really well.

“He’ll be some weeks. We won’t be seeing him until the New Year and after that really.

“He’s on his road to recovery now. He’ll be fine, he’ll come through this.”

Gutted, thought he was a big plus against Fulham even at left-back. It has been a problem position since JZ has been out. I like Stacey but Smith is still our best right-back for me. – Join the conversation, click here.
