Brighton defender Steve Cook has agreed to extend his loan with AFC Bournemouth into a second month.

Cook initially joined the Cherries on a one month loan deal from Championship side Brighton on 27th October and that deal was set to expire after Saturday’s game against Oldham.

AFC Bournemouth manager Lee Bradbury was keen to extend the deal following Cook making four appearances over the past month, helping the side to three successive League One victories.

But in a late twist Brighton Argus reporter Andy Naylor has reported via Twitter that Brighton were keen to recall Cook ahead of their game against Coventry, however as there was no 28-day recall clause in the initial deal a one month extension was agreed between the two clubs instead.

Naylor wrote…

Clear as mud?! To summarise, Cook was under impression he’d be returning before Sat. He couldn’t + Cherries keen to keep him anyway.

Cook also posted on Twitter adding…

Well that’s been eventful. All sorted now. On to Oldham at home saturday. 4th straight league win? #afcb

AFC Bournemouth manager Lee Bradbury told afcb.co.uk

“I’ve been impressed with Steve since he’s come in and he’s played is part in the good results we’ve had recently. I was keen to keep him here for another month and I’m pleased that we’ve agreed a deal with Brighton.

“He’s a young lad, but has shown why he’s so highly rated by the staff at Brighton. He defends well, is comfortable on the ball and has fitted in fantastically.”
