As a then newly relegated side from the Premier League, AFC Bournemouth entered the League Cup/EFL Cup/Carabao Cup for the 2020/21 season at the second round phase of the competition. The Cherries played Crystal Palace at Dean Court, winning the tie after a mammoth penalty shoot-out 11-10.

They would go on to face Manchester City in the third round, who would go on to win the competition for a record eighth time.

This season, AFC Bournemouth enter the secondary domestic cup competition in the first round and have once again been handed a home tie, this time against the club that frequent stadium:MK.

The last time these two sides met was three years ago, also in this competition with AFC Bournemouth winning 3-0.

The last time the club from stadium:MK won against the Cherries was in February 2012 in a third-tier game under former manager Lee Bradbury.
