The new club will enter the A-League for the 2024-25 season, with a women’s team joining their respected competition in time for the 2025-26 campaign.
Speaking at the launch of the new franchise, Bill Foley said as reported by aleagues.com.au…
“It’s an honour to bring a top football club to Auckland. Building a championship team from expansion has been my most exhilarating professional achievement, and I aim to do the same for the fans of New Zealand and particularly the community on the north island. It’s a special place and an area that I know will embrace this team.”

American businessman Foley hasn’t been shy in announcing his multi-club ambitions.
Shortly after the completion of his purchase of AFC Bournemouth, it was announced that Foley had acquired an initial 33% shareholding in the purchase of Ligue 1 side Lorient. Foley has stated that Black Knight’s (the controlling company that owns Foley’s football clubs) stake in Lorient was set to rise to 100% over the next few years on a phased basis.
The purchase of Auckland brings the stable to three football clubs and there are reports it could expand to potentially five.
Foley recently revealed interest in purchasing a Scottish Premiership club with many reports suggesting the club in question is Hibernian.
A deal to purchase a club in Belgium has yet to materialise after being linked with a potential takeover of Sporting Charleroi, however, reports suggest that this interest may now have crossed the border to the Netherlands.
How far along these acquisitions are in reality is unknown, but this hasn’t stopped Foley from speaking openly to the media about his intentions.
“We have teams that we’re working with right now in terms of making investments in Scotland and in the Netherlands.” he confirmed during his press conference in New Zealand.

I didn’t realise that this was a new team he was setting up.
The A league has been expanded to allow for a team in Auckland and Bill has acquired the license. So very similar to what he did with the Vegas Black Knights, starting a new “franchise” from scratch.
Apparently, Auckland used to have a team but they went belly up, interesting.
He clearly likes to keep busy ( understatement of the century !!! ). – To join the conversation, click here.
