AFC Bournemouth have today announced that 6 members of the squad are to be released at the end of next month as their contracts expire.

This list includes experienced defender Sylvain Distin, who joined the club at the start of this season following a lengthy career with time spent at Manchester City, Newcastle and Portsmouth.

Distin made 17 appearances for the Bournemouth this season across all competitions, and broke a Premier League record with his 450th Premier League start – the most for any foreign outfield player at the Cherries’ game against Swansea in November 2015.

Speaking in the Bournemouth Echo, Eddie Howe acknowledged Distin’s involvement with the squad this season adding

‘Sylvain was a vital part of our squad throughout the season. Going into the Premier League, we felt bringing someone with vast experience and knowledge of the division would be hugely beneficial to our squad and give them someone to lean on.

‘Sylvain played that role perfectly, but he also played his part on the pitch and was involved in some pivotal games. It was a really good experience for the other players to have worked with him for a year and I would like to thank him for his efforts.’e

The club also informed Jon Muleba, Stephane Zubar, Josh Carmichael, Mason Walsh and Josh Wakefield that their contracts will not be renewed next season.

The staff at AFCB Vital would like to thank all 6 players for their contributions to the club during their respective spells here, and wish them well in their future endeavours.
