AFC Bournemouth full back Adam Smith believes the Cherries will be wondering ‘what if’ after failing to take advantage of their first half display.

Smith was handed his chance to impress against Aston Villa in the FA Cup, coming in at right back for regular starter Simon Francis and then shifting to left back once Francis was introduced during the second half.

The former England Under 21 international believes the Cherries were the stronger side during the opening 45 minutes and thinks the sides best chance of a cup upset would have been to take our chances whilst we were on top.

Smith told the Daily Echo

“We were the better team in the first half and should have taken our chances.

“Unfortunately, if you do not score when you are on top against Premier League teams you get punished and that happened to us.

“We were on the attack when they broke and, to be fair to him, he cut inside and bent it round everyone…’

“…We could have done a little better with the second goal but our best chance was at 0-0 when we got at them.”
