AFC Bournemouth goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is hoping to be rewarded for some hard graft on the training ground.

The Cherries reportedly beat Everton to the signing of England youth goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale from Sheffield United on transfer deadline day.

The 18 year old signed a four and a half year deal at Dean Court after just two appearances for League One side Sheffield United.

Both of his appearances for Sheffield United came in this seasons FA Cup against Leyton Orient and Bolton, however Ramsdale has also represented England at Under 18’s and Under 19’s.

The transfer was officially undisclosed, but reportedly set around the £800,000 mark.

He is yet to make the squad for the Cherries, firmly behind first choice goalkeeper Artur Boruc.

With second choice ‘keeper Adam Federici out for the season with a knee injury, there is a fight between Ryan Allsop and Ramsdale for a place on the bench, a battle that has so far been won by Allsop.

Ramsdale told afcb.co.uk

‘It’s a lot more intense, The players here are world class and it’s a different level, I’m coping well and not sticking out like I’m doing anything wrong.

‘I need to keep grafting on the training ground and see where that gets me by the end of the season…’

‘…The coaches have said to me to come in for the six months until the end of the season and see how we operate; train well, train hard and hopefully there’ll be some rewards for me.

‘First and foremost I’m with the team and seeing how they work with things.’

Since our rise up the leagues, we have signed very young keepers such as Jordan Holmes and now Ramsdale. It’s way too early for us to really know how good they are going to be yet. Ramsdale is rated as one of the best young keepers in the country and we turned down a 6 figure bid from Villa for Holmes a few years ago so the signs are good you would think.

You also need to bear in mind that keepers don’t usually reach their peak until their mid to late 20’s at the earliest.
