AFC Bournemouth head coach Scott Parker has confirmed that out-of-contract duo Adam Smith and Junior Stanislas remain options for the Cherries next season.

The pair have been offered new deals at Dean Court, but as yet are yet to sign them. Due to this the pair are currently not training with AFC Bournemouth.

The duo both joined the Cherries during the 2014/15 Championship winning season and are now in their thirties with Smith turning 30 last April and Stanislas turning 32 this November.

Smith has made 284 appearances for the Cherries over two spells with the club, whilst Stanislas has made 166 appearances in all competitions.

Last season Stanislas enjoyed one of his most productive seasons of his career scoring 10 goals in the Championship and claiming 4 assists in 35 league appearances, whilst Smith only missed 3 league games all season, starting 40.

The duo clearly offers Parker some added experience into the side, but also offers quality at this level.

Arguably, it could be said that Jack Stacey offers a solid alternative to Adam Smith at right-back, so could any potential signing on fee and wages be better spent elsewhere?

Arguably in regards to Stanislas, his injuries have always been a problem for him. If fit with a run in the team, the Cherries would struggle to find better for the money he’s likely to be asking. But if he’s injured, that money could be better spent on alternatives?

Parker told the Daily Echo

“I am hoping they are options, of course, I am hoping they are options.

“We are speaking to those players to see if that’s viable, of course, while also understanding that if not, we have our eyes on elsewhere as well, not being left behind in that…”

“…what’s the most important thing for me is they bring quality, they bring something which can make us successful.

“If that is the case then perfect for them guys. If it could work then that’d be good.”

Your say…

Good stats.
Confirms my belief that it would be better to keep Stanislas if it comes down to either/or. Disregarding the fact that Smithy’s falling over and screaming in pain has really started to wind me up in recent seasons.
We should try to keep Stan if at all possible. Injury-prone yes, but a great impact sub whenever he’s fit enough for the bench and an even better player whenever he manages an injury-free run in the team. – Join the conversation, click here.
