AFC Bournemouth right-back Adam Smith has triggered a clause in his contract to extend his deal on the south coast until the end of the 2024/2025 campaign.
The 32-year-old recently surpassed 350 club appearances for the club, reaching the milestone against Newcastle United in front of Eddie Howe, the manager who first brought him to Dean Court on a youth loan in September 2010 and then signed him permanently in January 2014.
Smith played a key role in the club’s promotion from the Championship to the Premier League and the following 5 seasons in the top flight of English football.
Following the club’s relegation, Smith spent two seasons in the Championship with the Cherries culminating in a second promotion to the Premier League.

Speaking to BBC Radio Solent, Smith said…
“It’s gone so quickly, it doesn’t feel like 10 years. When I first joined I didn’t think I’d be here 10 years [later] that’s for sure.
“When you’re in your thirties people write you off, but I don’t think it’s right. What anyone says doesn’t bother me to be honest.”
Your say…

It’s been a turbulent few years and the transition looks set to continue. Good to have someone like Smith around to be a steady consistent influence. Hopefully, he’s not having to play 100 mins a week until 2025, but you’d always have him nearby. – To join the conversation, click here.
