Following the sale of AFC Bournemouth from Russian businessman Maxim Demin to American businessman Bill Foley, AFC Bournemouth chairman Jeff Mostyn has moved roles within the club.

Bill Foley will become the new AFC Bournemouth chairman, whilst Jeff Mostyn will become the AFC Bournemouth club ambassador.

Mostyn’s involvement in the Cherries spans 16 years, as owner he witnessed the club’s administration, a 1o point deduction from the Football League which resulted in relegation from League One in 2008, and a subsequent 17-point deduction the following year which almost saw the Cherries fall into the abyss of non-league football and probable extinction, only to be saved by the appointment of Eddie Howe as manager maintaining our League Two status.

The following 16 months saw a transfer embargo, the club avoiding relegation from the fourth tier of English football, to promotion from it in 2010.

Mostyn has overseen the sale of the club from Eddie Mitchell to Maxim Demin and the resulting rise up the Football League from League One, to winners of the Championship and up to the Premier League.

A five-year stint in the top flight of English football came alongside the world being hit with the COVID-19 pandemic, but after two short years in the Championship, the club returned back to the Premier League.

Mostyn has written an open letter to supporters, which has been published on afcb.co.uk

Firstly, I would like to congratulate Bill Foley on his successful purchase of the Club and wish him and his family every success. I know they will do everything in their power to ensure the club continues its incredible upward trajectory.

It has been the most remarkable sixteen years. From purchasing the club in 2007 in its hour of need, followed by the journey from League Two through to the heady heights of the Premier League, it feels more akin to a fantasy story than the reality we have all enjoyed.

To have been your Chairman through the past decade fills me with great pride, and to share the experience with such incredible members of staff, players, management and supporters is what has made it so special. What we achieved proved, “Together, Anything is Possible”.

To me it will always be one of the most amazing stories in English football history, and without Maxim Demin’s unbelievable commitment and financial support, it simply would not have been possible. The club reached new levels when he took control, and his contribution is something we will always be grateful for.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank my wife Rosie for her unwavering support and that of my family, especially in those dark early days.

Following the takeover, and after discussions with Bill Foley, I am delighted to start a new role as Club Ambassador where I will continue to support the club and the community. It goes without saying that my commitment to this football club will never cease.

My gratitude, kindest regards and best wishes goes to everyone who has shared the past sixteen years with me, and here’s to new beginnings and continued success.

Your say…

A nice little sideways move for Jeff, glad to see that he hasn’t been ousted completely. I suspect that this is a nice cushy little gig for him.

Great to see the new owners acknowledging everything he did to save the club in its darkest days. Showing a bit of respect to our tumultuous past.
Nice move. – To join the conversation, click here.
