AFC Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell has revealed that the fee received for the sale of striker Danny Ings has smashed our previous transfer record.

The sale of Joe Parkinson to Everton in March 1994 for £800,000 was the Cherries previous record fee received.

Ings was sold to Championship side Burnley earlier today (Monday) for an undisclosed fee.

The 19 year old signed a four year deal after agreeing personal terms and passing a medical.

Ings had been the subject of failed bids from Premier League side Fulham and Championship side Crystal Palace over the summer.

Mitchell insisted on numerous occasions that Ings would become the Cherries first £1million player and reports suggest that Burnley met the asking price.

Mitchell told afcb.co.uk

‘A player of Danny’s quality is something very rare, and we’ve made it no secret that clubs have been sniffing around since he broke through into the first team last season.

‘The offer we eventually accepted has absolutely smashed our previous transfer records, and we will make sure it gets put to good use, benefiting the team and the club.’
