AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe praised striker Yann Kermorgant after the Frenchman scored a hat-trick on his full debut for the Cherries.

The 32 year old joined the Cherries from Charlton in January, but had been limited to four substitute appearances against Leicester, Bolton, Burnley and Derby County.

For the match against Doncaster Rovers, Howe selected Kermorgant upfront alongside top scorer Lewis Grabban, as the Cherries brushed last seasons League One champions aside with a comfortable 5-0 victory at Dean Court.

Harry Arter scored a brace, whilst Kermorgant took the headlines with a hat-trick, scoring his ninth, tenth and eleven goals of the season.

Howe told BBC Radio Solent

“We always had him in mind to start this game. We feel that when new players come to the club we have to educate them in how we play and what we want them to do, I think it’s sometimes difficult. You sign a player and you are expected to play them straight off, but I think he needed to learn about us and the decisions we took…’

‘…He`s very good with his feet, he showed that with the first goal with the finish with his right foot. You watch him in training and he`s technically very good.

“That`s why we didn`t want to just sign a physical presence who couldn`t play and couldn`t fit in with the style of football we wanted to play.

‘You saw today, he enhanced our performance.”
