Finishing above Southampton could mean staying up

AFC Bournemouth captain Simon Francis recently admitted that bragging rights over neighbours Southampton are important.

Southampton are the Cherries closest geographical neighbours in league football.

But whilst any rivalry can be heavily debated due to the two sides not meeting on a regular basis for decades, the rivalry this season in the Premier League could be pivotal.

Francis told the Daily Echo

‘It would be special to finish above Southampton. Those bragging rights are important.

‘Southampton are probably not too happy with the way they are doing at the moment but that’s football.

‘They have got a talented squad and I don`t expect them to be down there so if we can finish above them come the end of the season, we will be in a fantastic position.

But whilst Francis doesn’t believe that Southampton will go down, many Cherries fans are not so sure and thus, finishing above them could mean the difference between relegation and Premier League survival.

Your Say…

wellsworld: us 12th – scum, stoke, baggies down

DJ: Got us 15th, sent down Southampton, Stoke and West Brom.

redskins: Probably a bit biased to Bournemouth in 10 th but Scum, Stoke and West Brom for the chop

punkrockcherry: I came up with us finishing 10th

West Brom, S*********n and Crystal Palace to go down.

Damn! I really want Stoke to go down!!

ExiledGooner: Stoke, Palace, West Brom down. Stains survive in 17th by 1pt. We’re 10th

srdeverill:
10West Ham46
11Watford43
12Bournemouth41
13Newcastle40
14Huddersfield39
15Brighton38
16Crystal Palace36
17Stoke35
18Swansea34
19Southampton34
20West Brom22

West Brom didn’t have a good run in ….

paul49: Saints Potters and Baggies go down. We finish up tenth.

drd: We finish 12th with a dream trio of Saints, Stoke and West Brom down

RoyalCherry: Fair to say I’ve been a bit biased. Wanted to shove West Ham and Watford into the Championship as well but couldn’t do it so went for the obvious. On 28 points, the Saints are marching back to the second tier

Oh and we finished in 7th
