Could AFC Bournemouth goalkeeper Adam Federici end his career in Australia?
The 32 year old was born in Nowra, Australia, which was where he began his career as a youngster with Huskisson.
He moved to England when he was 17 and had trials with Sheffield Wednesday and Bolton Wanderers before signing non-contract forms with Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2003.
He left Wolves for Italian side Torres, where he played in the Italian Serie C1 league before joining Reading in September 2005.
He made 245 appearances for the club, including over 20 appearances in the Premier League.
He was named Reading’s player of the season for 2014/15 after Reading reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup but opted against signing a new extended contract at Reading.
Instead Federici decided to make the move to the south coast to sign for AFC Bournemouth.
He has made just 17 appearances for the Cherries, including 8 Premier League appearances but has been firmly second choice behind Artur Boruc since making the move to Dean Court.
In February he had surgery on his knee after he had damaged the cartilage in his right knee in training (previous article).
The recent signing of Asmir Begovic from Chelsea for a reported fee in the region of £8-10million will see Federici drop further down the pecking order, putting his AFC Bournemouth future in doubt.
Wollongong Wolves CEO Chris Papakosmas, hopes he will eventually move to Australia but for now he has ‘got options coming out of his ears’.

‘…It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if he’d like to finish off his career by giving something back to the region that started him off.
‘We’ve had quite a few discussions with him about a range of things to do with his playing career and his eventual transitioning to a post-football life and obviously he has still got his commitments with Bournemouth and he’s still part of the Socceroos set-up.
‘The best goalkeepers can play until they’re 40, so he still has a lot of top-level football left in him and I expect we’ll be in the A-League well before he’s ready to retire.
‘He’s got options coming out of his ears, mate, but when the times comes if we can put something on the table that interests him, then from a fairytale, romantic point of view I think that would be a perfect way for him to finish his career.’
