EFL Cup Second Round South – AFCB v Palace

|

Written by billythekid

The Cherries face Premier League Crystal Palace at Dean Court on Tuesday at 7.45 pm. Our last meeting with Crystal Palace was back in June when we lost 0-2, they went on to lose their next seven games and drew the last one of the season. It was the first of our nine games behind closed doors at Dean Court in the Premier League, it wasn’t a memorable game for those AFCB fans watching on the BBC live coverage of the game, with the first of six defeats in our nine games.

Palace still have Roy Hodgson as their manager for their new season, they have signed three players, Eberechi Eze the forward from Queens Park Rangers for a fee of £20 million. Right-back Nathan Ferguson joined Crystal Palace after his contract finished with West Brom. Striker Michy Batshuayi joins on loan from Chelsea.

Last season Palace went down at home against League Two side Colchester United after a 0-0 draw on penalties. In the same competition the Cherries went out in the Third Round away game against League One Burton Albion by 2-0, it was a game interrupted three times for floodlight failures. In the previous round, AFCB beat Forest Green Rovers at Dean Court on penalties after the game finishing 0-0.

In the respective leagues, both the Cherries in the Championship and the Eagles in the Premier League both started with home wins. The Cherries beating Blackburn Rovers 3-2, with goals from Stacey, Lerma and Danjuma and Palace beating Southampton 1-0, Zaha the goalscorer. I expect we will see changes from both teams for this cup game.

In all our 74 games against Crystal Palace this game on Tuesday evening and the 75th time, will be the first time in any cup competition.
In all our league games home and away, AFCB have W 29, D 19, L 26.

AFCB Team News
Chris Mepham who hasn’t played a lot of football since his injury limped off against Blackburn Rovers and it remains to be seen if he will play against Palace. Otherwise, no other injuries reported from Saturday’s game.

AFCB Player To Watch
Jason might do an Eddie and rest some of the players from Saturday ready for the away game at Middlesbrough. He might start some of the players who were on the bench Saturday. That included Sam Surridge, be good to see him start against Palace and see how he does in his first competitive game of the season. He may also include one or two of the younger fringe players.

Crystal Palace Team News
They have had seven players out injured. Patrick van Aanholt, Mamadou Sakho, James Tomkins, Gary Cahill. Christian Benteke, Connor Wickham and Nathan Ferguson.

Crystal Palace Player To Watch
With expecting changes from Roy Hodgson, young striker Eberechi Eze they signed from QPR who came on as a substitute in their recent Premier League game, probably will be given a start, he scored 14 goals in the Championship last season.
