Cherries back in for long term target?

Have AFC Bournemouth returned to a reportedly long-term summer target?

Since the January transfer window, the Cherries have been firmly linked with Brentford and Wales international defender Chris Mepham.

Reports at the time suggested that a £5.5million offer had been rejected.

In March, the player himself confirmed that an offer had been made and that he had been flattered by the interest. AFC Bournemouth then returned with another bid when the summer transfer window opened.

The Cherries nearly doubled their original offer but that too was rejected.

During July the trail turned cold, with very few reports of a third bid being forthcoming.

But with just a few days of the transfer window now remaining, British tabloid the Daily Mail has once again suggested that the Cherries interest in the 20-year-old.

In fact their report states that AFC Bournemouth raised their offer to £12million, which was also rejected.

Bournemouth are looking to add to their defensive options, while Leicester would like to sign another centre-back to support their established first-teamers.

The 6ft 3in central defender played all 90 minutes in Brentford’s Championship season opener against Rotherham United on Saturday, Brentford won 5-1.

I guess Leicester are expecting a Harry Maguire shaped hole in their defence later this week and making moves to fill it in advance.
