Chelsea v AFCB – Highlights & Reaction

|

AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe told the Daily Echo

“I think, very simply, today is the best we’ve fought, the best we’ve competed. The most desire I have seen from the group.

“Don’t get me wrong, in previous games, I don’t feel there has been a lack of effort but sometimes when things have gone against us, there’s a feeling that everything’s conspiring to try to break us.

“Today we never had those moments and we were able to build the other way.

“We looked a real threat in the second half, we scored a goal at a great time and everyone gave everything to try to win.”

Big credit to the back four; written off by most on here but a really composed performance. I definitely think Mepham looks more comfortable on the left. Tyrone Mings who?

But it was the packed midfield that was the difference for me, both defensively and in attack. We shut down the space, forcing them into the diagonal ball again and again and Jefferson Lerma, as usual, was immense. Dan Gosling and Philip Billing taking it in turns to venture forward made us less predictable, and with Lewis Cook coming in from the wing we often found ourselves with the extra man, giving options to the man on the ball. Gosling’s willingness to make late runs into the box late is also something we’ve been crying out for months. In all, a great performance.

Your say…

I want to mention how great it is for us that we kept a clean sheet against a top-six team away WITHOUT Nathan Ake and Steve Cook. It means we really can cope without them.

Also, I thought Simon Francis was immense with his leadership and Chris Mepham looked a much better player next to him. Gosling as well. Such a big influence. – Join the conversation, click here.
