Reports across Europe, which originated from Emanuel Roşu a football journalist in Romania, seem certain that AFC Bournemouth are on the brink of securing Inter Milan goalkeeper Andrei Ionuț Radu on loan.

It’s not clear if the 26-year-old Romania international is coming to the south coast to challenge AFC Bournemouth captain Neto for the number one shirt, or whether he is just joining to add competition for a starting role, but what is clear, is that it has paved a move for Ryan Travers to depart Dean Court on loan.

The 24-year-old has joined Stoke City, who are making a bid for a successful season in the Championship.

Just two years ago, Travers was awarded the Football League Championship’s golden glove award with 20 clean sheets in 45 Championship appearances, beating both Huddersfield Town’s Lee Nicholls and Sheffield United’s Wes Foderingham who had 18.

Travers impressed so much throughout the campaign that he won the vote for the AFC Bournemouth Supporters Player of the Season, AFC Bournemouth Vice-Presidents Player of the Season and the Daily Echo’s Micky Cave Player of the Season awards, only missing out on the Junior Cherries Player of the Season award which was won by striker Dominic Solanke, who became the first striker in 15 years to net 30 goals in a single campaign as the Cherries would go on to clinch promotion back to the Premier League.

Last season, he lost his place as the first-team’s number one following the departure of Scott Parker, with Gary O’Neil opting for Neto as his first choice shot-stopper. This limited Travers’ first team opportunities and that looked set to continue under new head coach Andoni Iraola.

Travers has aspirations to become Republic of Ireland’s first choice goalkeeper and regular football is the only way to achieve this.

Speaking to stokecityfc.com, Travers said…

“This is a great opportunity to test myself in the Championship again and I am pleased to have had the interest from Stoke City, It is a chance for me to play for a great manager at a really exciting time for the Club, especially with the new signings that are arriving.

“I have heard good things about the Club from players here now – including Ben Pearson and Enda Stevens – and others who have played here before.

“I feel like this is an exciting project and the next step in my career.

“The season is only just around the corner and I cannot wait to get going.”

He’s worth another two or three seasons on our books, whilst out on loan to see if he can develop into a top-flight keeper. – To join the conversation, click here.
