AFC Bournemouth are reportedly interested in left-back Robin Gosens, who recently played in the UEFA Champions League Final for Inter Milan, losing 1-0 to Manchester City.

According to reports in Italy, via Italian Journalist Alfredo Pedullà,the 28-year-old is likely to leave Italy this summer and could either be making a move to the German Bundesliga with Union Berlin and Wolfsburg reportedly interested, or he could be making a move to the Premier League with AFC Bournemouth.

The Cherries are lacking in the left-back, left-wing back position with Jordan Zemura leaving on a free transfer to Serie A side Udinese and Mathias Vina returning to Roma following the expiry of his loan spell.

According to the Daily Echo, just last week, AFC Bournemouth were still interested in signing Vina on a permanent basis and had opened negotiations with the Italian side over a potential transfer fee. This was despite having previously agreed an option to purchase Vina after the loan spell for a reported €15million, “in a bid to find a fee that represents better value for the club.”

The report went on to add…

“Roma’s latest accounts, posted in January, revealed that the club had lost a record €219million during the 2021-22 campaign, with debts around the €271million mark”

However, following the Cherries releasing their official retained and released list, reports emerged that the Cherries had decided “against making his transfer permanent”.

If AFC Bournemouth have moved their attention away from Vina, this would explain the potential interest in Gosens.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror have reported that the Cherries have opened “talks to sign Hungarian left-back Milos Kerkez from AZ Alkmaar.”

The 19-year-old, who came through the youth ranks at Rapid Vienna is valued at £17million.

FFP means we can’t simply go out and buy a bunch of players on high wages in their late 20s. Our turnover and the losses limit won’t allow it. We need to buy players with potential resale value in the knowledge that they won’t all work out but if we can make a big profit on one in three, get a solid first-team performer from one in three then we can afford to make a mistake with the other one in three. Everybody makes transfer mistakes so they have to be built into the model.

If you’re West Ham or Villa with 40k-60k crowds then you can throw in some expensive mistakes without too much trouble. On 10k crowds with much more limited commercial revenue then it’s a very dangerous game to play. – To join the conversation, click here.
