AFC Bournemouth have revealed that new signing, USA International captain Tyler Adams has undergone a second operation in a bid to cure his hamstring injury.

The 24-year-old signed a five-year contract with the Cherries after leaving Elland Road in August for a reported £23 million, Adams hadn’t featured for Leeds United since the second week of March due to a hamstring injury.

Adams had previously had surgery on the injury and was thought to be edging closer to a Premier League debut with the Cherries when he made a 20-minute substitute appearance for AFC Bournemouth against Stoke City in the Football League Cup.

However, it was quickly decided that Adams’ hamstring problems had not been resolved.

He’s now not likely to make his Premier League debut for AFC Bournemouth until at least February 2024.

The prolonged injury absence leaves AFC Bournemouth short of numbers in central midfield with Alex Scott, a summer signing from Bristol City only just returning from injury against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Lewis Cook has now been added to the sidelines due to his suspension following his red card against Wolves, which could see Joe Rothwell step up to a more frequent role.

Speaking to the Daily Echo, AFC Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola said…

“…He had to solve, once and forever, these problems. He has had surgery.

“He will be out for three or four months, something like this, depending how he evolves.

“But I think from the previous surgery, he wasn’t feeling well in any moment.

“He was improving, then he had a setback, improving again, setback.

“So he had to have surgery again.”

I wonder if Bill Foley hadn’t come out and said it was a mistake not to sign to Nicholas Jackson despite injury, whether we would we have signed Tyler Adams? Sounds like the club thought it was a gamble on his fitness but a rare opportunity to sign an upgrade on Lerma.

Don’t think it was a bad decision but signing him and Alex Scott knowing we wouldn’t see them for the first quarter of the season has handicapped the team – especially in the central defensive midfield role without Lerma and Ben Pearson. – To join the conversation, click here.
