Utility man Stephen Purches has saluted the maturity of youngster Brett Pitman as he scored his first Cherries goal.

17 year old Pitman scored his first, a penalty, in the 4-1 LDV win over Aldershot and Purches was full of praise for the way he handled himself.

‘He slotted the penalty away very well, and he won’t forget that one, as he failed his driving test today as well, but I asked him what he would rather have done, and he said score the goal!

‘James Keene came on and got a couple too – it’ll be good for his confidence, and hopefully he can score a few more.’

Purches was making his first appearance of the season after picking up a knee injury in preseason and continued:

‘After 11 weeks out, it’s nice just to be back out there and playing again, I was pleased I came through as long as I did. We’ve had a lot of injuries, but for the team to gell as well as it has done is excellent.’
