AFC Bournemouth hosted Everton at Dean Court on Tuesday night for the first of a doubleheader against the Merseyside club.

Both sides will undoubtedly be prioritising Saturday’s Premier League encounter, which was shown by both sides making numerous changes for this English Football League Cup fixture.

This gave chances to players who have yet to really feature regularly in the top flight, Anthony, who has just one start in the Premier League, making his second start in the EFL Cup, Jamal Lowe, Joe Rothwell, Junior Stanislas, Jack Stephens all of whom are yet to make a Premier League start this season, all got their chance to start in this encounter.

After the match, AFC Bournemouth interim head coach Gary O’Neil told Sky Sports

“I treat every game like it might be my last, that is the nature of the interim role.

“It has always been about taking the next game and I am very happy with that. I appreciate that I have had a decent chunk of games to get my teeth into.

“I am delighted with the boys tonight. They put in a hell of a performance against a very good side and we looked like a team.”

I think it augurs well for Saturday.

Both teams played a reserve side, and for a long time not much happened, but our players knew what the plan was while Everton looked lost.

Plus, Dembele. If we give him 20 minutes, (AND get the ball to him early (Parker never did)), he delivers. 2 assists tonight, almost self-created out of nothing. He should always have a place on the bench.

Entertaining display in the second half from us…have to say that Stanislas looks shot to me and thought Lowe put in a great shift..Dembele has that surprise element to his game…..Marcondes is not up to Premier League in my opinion but seems a really nice guy glad he scored…Christie is a bit of a conundrum and does so much work but his final ball is often poor and his ability to be robbed of the ball is staggering….Stacey improving very nicely…JZ and his friend Anthony linked up well and are a real asset when they play…nice to see Sadi getting on class touch by Gary O’Neil…Stephens looked okay and has some s***housery about his play often pushing his opponent without getting caught!…. Pearson solid and gritty but he’s no Lerma…Rothwell some neat interchanges and he looks like a good squad signing…
Can’t complain about any 4-1 win though to be fair.

What I liked about the first goal was that Lowe scored it, he was my pick for the first goal. What I liked about the second goal was that Christie pounced on the loose ball and just smacked it across the 6-yard box. What I liked about the third goal was that Speed Kills: Jack Stacey made it with his run down the left. What I liked about the fourth goal was Quickness Kills: Waterbug Dembele made something out of nothing. – To join the conversation, click here.
