Following the ticket scam that saw pupils at Portchester School return from Germany without seeing a ball kicked, AFC Bournemouth have offered the pupils a VIP trip to Dean Court to see the Cherries face Premiership neighbours Portsmouth.

The press have since learned that an internet company which sold the fake tickets has made around £60,000 from the scam.

Chairman Peter Phillips hopes the offer from the Cherries will help to ‘soften the blow’.

He told the Daily Echo

‘We had all learned about the situation from the press and one of our staff had sent her son on the trip so we thought it would be a good idea to invite them down for a special day out to see us play Portsmouth. It won’t be quite the same as a World Cup match but we hope that it will soften the blow, after we had decided that, manager Sean O’Driscoll came up with the wonderful idea to take a first team side down to play them as well.’

Rob Christopher (The PE teacher at Portchester School) added…

‘…The boys were all really down about not getting to see their match and this will be really welcome news. I know they’ll be delighted.’
