AFC Bournemouth could be on the brink of breaking their transfer fee received record for a player who has come through the clubs youth set-up.
Sam Surridge is reportedly on the brink of joining fellow Championship side Stoke City, in a deal that could be worth up to £5.5million.
The initial report came via Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph reporter John Percy, the move apparently comes after Stoke City had held discussions with Manchester City over a loan move for Liam Delap.
talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook has posted on Twitter that Surridge wants a move away from the south coast as he “did not want to be back up to Solanke”, despite being just one of two senior forwards in AFC Bournemouth’s squad.
Crook went on to add that the Cherries “are actively seeking a replacement” for Surridge.

Goes without saying #AFCB are actively seeking a replacement for Surridge as they are light in that position anyway but the market is proving very tough for a lot of Champ clubs. https://t.co/ATWUtva6M7

Whether the reported £5.5million deal includes numerous add-ons with stipulations appears to be up for debate, but even if the deal includes just one-fifth of that figure upfront, it will be more than the club received when selling Danny Ings to Burnley for £1million a decade ago.
That deal did see the Cherries receive a further £200,000 in 2016, as the deal included a sell-on clause which was activated when Ings made the move to Liverpool.
Your say…
It could be a deal that suits all parties. He hasn’t been a regular starter for Eddie Howe, Jason Tindall or Jonathan Woodgate and I would assume he isn’t Scott Parker’s cup of striker. It could be a good fit for him and Stoke. Only time will tell if £5m is the best business for us or them. I wish him well and good luck to him ( except against us ) : )
When you consider how much we got for James Hayter, Brett Pitman, Sam Vokes, and Danny Ings, it’s a lot of money, interesting to see how his career pans out. Well done to Joe Roach and all of Eddie’s mates in the youth set up : ) – Join the conversation, click here.
