The possibility of Crewe loanee Ben Rix extending his spell with the Cherries until the end of the season is down to the player himself according to boss Sean O’Driscoll.

Speaking with the Bournemouth Daily Echo, O’Driscoll said he was keen to hang on to the midfielder until the end of the campaign – but has left the decision in the hands of the 23-year-old.

Rix, who made his Cherries debut in the 1-0 defeat at Swansea, sees his current deal expire after tomorrow’s away tie at Scunthorpe.

Along with the Daily Echo, www.upthecherries.co.uk has noted the good performances Rix has put into recent reserve games for the Cherries, in the 3-2 win over Bristol City and last weeks victory over Yeovil Town.

O’Driscoll told the paper ‘Ideally, we would like to keep him for the rest of the season, but he knows that is a decision he has got to make.’

‘He is away from his family, he has probably not started as many games this month as he did last month, so it is his decision’.

‘If he does go back to Crewe, he goes back with a great deal of plaudits from us’.

Rix was first brought to the club from relegation dog-fighters Crewe Alexandra as a replacement for the departing Brian Stock. His performance at Swansea earnt him the Man-of-the-Match award from many travelling Cherries fans. His most recent appearance came in the 1-0 home loss to Bradford City.
