AFC Bournemouth utility man Stephen Purches unfortunately suffered a double break of the tibia and fibula against Rochdale.

Purches was drafted into the side after Steve Cook had injured his ankle during training.

Purches and Rochdale’s Jason Kennedy both went for a 50/50 challenge inside the opening ten minutes of the game, which left Purches with a broken leg.

After a lengthy stoppage, Purches was stretchered off the pitch and taken to hospital and is expected to have an operation later today (Sunday).

AFC Bournemouth manager Lee Bradbury told the Daily Echo

“There was nothing in the challenge that we have seen to suggest any malice. It wasn`t over the top but it`s very unfortunate for Purchy.

“I think the injury affected the lads for a while, especially those who saw or heard it. But after they got that out of their minds, I thought we gave it a good go…”

Everyone at AFCB Vital would like to send their best wishes to Purches and fingers crossed for a speedy and full recovery.
