Pugh: I owe everything to Howe

AFC Bournemouth winger Marc Pugh has praised manager Eddie Howe following the Cherries virtual promotion to the Premier League.

Marc Pugh was signed by Eddie Howe during his first period as manager from Hereford in 2010. Due to being under the age of 24 at the time, his transfer fee was settled by a Football Association tribunal.

Pugh had previously rejected a contract offer from Hereford after the winger enjoyed his best season in the Football League scoring thirteen goals in League Two during the 2009/10 season, including three against AFC Bournemouth.

In August 2010 the FA set a fee of an initial £60,000, with an additional £40,000 in staged appearance related payments.

At the time then vice chairman Jeff Mostyn believed the fee was ‘quite excessive’, but after two promotions, 230 appearances for the club and 47 goals, including the opener on Monday night against Bolton, that fee doesn’t look quite so bad.

Pugh told afcb.co.uk

‘The gaffer has come back and been brilliant, He’s given the club a new lease of life and I have a lot to thank him for.

‘He’s brought me on and developed me as a player – I owe everything to him.

‘He’s a true inspiration for the football club.’
