Protracted deal at Bournemouth finally gets over the line

At the end of the 2020/21 campaign in May, AFC Bournemouth offered new deals to out-of-contract duo Adam Smith and Junior Stanislas.

Earlier this month Smith opted to sign a new two-year contract to remain at Dean Court and joined up with the squad for their summer training camp in Spain.

Now, almost two weeks later 31-year-old Junior Stanislas has also penned a new two-year deal with the club.

Stanislas arguably enjoyed his best season in a Cherries shirt during the most recent campaign. The attacking winger scored 10 goals and claimed 4 assists in 35 appearances in the Championship, playing in a number of positions on the left-wing, right-wing, and centrally.

Since making the move to Dean Court seven years ago, Stanislas has made 166 appearances for the club in all competitions scoring 37 times and he is now set to add to that as one of the attacking options that new AFC Bournemouth head coach Scott Parker has at his disposal.

Following the announcement, Stanislas told afcb.co.uk…

“I’m delighted. It’s dragged out a little but I’ve always wanted to be here. I’m delighted it’s finally over the line and I can now focus my mind on the next two years…”

“…Since I’ve been here, we’ve had a lot of success already in moving from the Championship to the Premier League and staying there for five years.

“We were very unfortunate not to have that final push last season and get promoted.

“This season is a new season with a very good squad. There’s no reason why we can’t achieve the things we achieved before and take them to even higher levels.”

Discussing new AFC Bournemouth head coach Scott Parker, who he played alongside during their West Ham United days, Stanislas again speaking to afcb.co.uk added…

“…We had a lot of good times on the pitch together, he helped me a lot off the pitch also and I can only say positive things about him.

“He’s very driven, very focused. He was like that as a player and everything that I’ve heard about him so far as a head coach has been very much the same.

“He’s very hard working, but at the same time he makes it enjoyable, with him as the head coach I’m delighted to sign and be part of this journey going forwards.

“I’ve had plenty of conversations with him from the moment he signed. Everything’s been positive and he’s made me feel very valued and that going forward I’ll have a big part to play in our journey.

Ever since Stan’s goal v West Brom several years ago, I can’t help thinking his free-kicks have been overrated. We get maybe 2 a season that are near-misses? As for corners, we know they hit the first man more often than not. Would certainly be happy to see Marcondes given a crack at them.

Still, as a left-winger and finisher in open play, Stan is a good option at this level and adds a bit more weight to our squad. Experience and versatility. Would like to see more of Anthony on that left side as well though.
