Mostyn: The pinnacle of world football

AFC Bournemouth chairman Jeff Mostyn was lost for words following the Cherries virtual promotion to the Premier League.

The Cherries 3-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers edged the Cherries three points clear of Middlesbrough with one final game remaining.

Middlesbrough could draw level with the Cherries if they were to win on the final day and AFC Bournemouth were to lose to Charlton, but a goal difference swing of 19 over the two games is unlikely.

Mostyn has almost seen it all since his involvement with the club, administration, 10 point deduction, relegation from League One, almost liquidation, a further 17 point deduction, the greatest escape from near oblivion and non league football, a sixteen month transfer embargo and now three promotions in five years.

Mostyn told the Daily Echo

‘…It is very hard to give an immediate reaction. Had you asked me what would happen over the course of a season I could probably have come up with some incredible scenarios but the reality of having reached the Premier League remains hard to accept…’

“…we have arrived at the pinnacle of English football, some would say the pinnacle of world football.

“For us to be able to compete with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea still feels like a dream but it is a reality and I am actually lost for words!”
