Jermain Defoe OBE misses training for Royal appointment

Jermain Defoe missed training with AFC Bournemouth last week.
The former England striker was not involved with the rest of the squad at Kings Park, instead, he had an appointment with a future King at Buckingham Palace.
Defoe was at Buckingham Palace to collect the “Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire” (OBE) from Prince Charles.
Defoe had been included in the Queen’s birthday honours list in June following work by his charity the Jermain Defoe Foundation.
Defoe dedicated the honour to Bradley Lowery, who died in 2017 after suffering from a rare form of cancer.
Defoe founded the charity in 2013.
Defoe’s grandparents are from the Caribbean island of St Lucia and it is a place that is close to Defoe’s heart.
The Foundation was initially set up to help to support homeless, vulnerable and abused children in St Lucia, but it has since been expanded to neighbouring Caribbean Islands and the UK. For more information, click here.
