AFC Bournemouth left back Rhoys Wiggins has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury.

Wiggins joined Championship side Birmingham City on a half season loan deal on transfer deadline day, with Birmingham holding an option to extend the 29 year old’s loan deal to the end of the season.

Wiggins was hopeful that the option would be taken, after settling in quickly with the Championship club.

Wiggins had told the Birmingham Mail

‘…It`s a club that makes sense for me. so I`m going to do my utmost to force my way into the team and perform well and hopefully extend it in January and see what it holds then…’

But on only his second appearance and first start, he suffered a season ending knee injury.

Howe told afcb.co.uk

‘I’ve seen Rhoys and I’m devastated for him, It seems serious, so he’s seen a specialist and has been booked in for an operation, we have to wait for the swelling to go down on his knee first.

‘I think he’ll be out for the rest of the season and it should be next season before he’s back, we’ll give him all the support we can.

‘As for the rest of the squad, we’ve got a couple of niggles that the squad picked up from Middlesbrough, but there’s nothing else long term.’
