AFC Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings has suffered a setback during his rehabilitation following a back injury.

Mings had made three appearances during the current 2017/18 campaign, with all three seeing Mings named in the starting XI.

The first came in the EFL Cup against Birmingham City, but the other two appearances came in the Premier League as AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe adopted a three at the back formation.

That saw Mings operate on the left hand side of a three man defence alongside Nathan Ake and Steve Cook.

However the 24 year old was forced off at half time against Arsenal in September and is yet to return.

It was thought that he would now be ramping up his training in a bid for a return to the first team, but that has now be halted as the Cherries seek specialist advice.

Howe told the Daily Echo

‘Tyrone felt a bit of discomfort again so we’re having to withdraw slightly from where he was.

‘We went down the treatment route which we were advised, which was four weeks of rest and then a gradual return. He felt good during that process but it was only when he was really returning to training that he felt the problem again…’

‘…It’s a disappointment for us because he was very close. We’re going to seek specialist opinion from, hopefully, some of the best people in the world in that area and then we will await feedback…’

Tyrone is obviously a big powerful lad. Not saying he is overweight for his height at all, but every time he lands, it`s a lot of kilos of muscle putting pressure on his joints. Fast bowlers have a lot of problems with their ankles, knees and backs. Completely different sport but perhaps Mings is suffering from the same issues?Join the conversation here.
