AFC Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe was delighted with his sides performance away to Birmingham City.

The Cherries raced into a 3-0 away lead inside the opening half an hour with thanks to goals from Matt Ritchie and Lewis Grabban.

Ritchie opened the scoring with a well taken half volley, before Grabban tapped home the second from close range at the back post.

Grabban won a penalty and converted the spot kick on the half an hour mark, with the Cherries leading scorer, smashing the ball into the top corner.

Ian Harte then scored the goal of the game five minutes into the second half with a wonderfully curled effort into the top left hand corner.

With the points wrapped up, the Cherries continued to push for more goals, but got hit at the back with Birmingham substitute Federico Macheda scoring twice.

Howe told BBC Radio Solent

“It was a great first half performance, we looked a real goal threat. We counter attacked really well throughout the whole game, I thought we were well on top, well in control and dominated a decent side.

“You only have to look back a couple of years and see that this team were in the Premier League so we are very pleased to come here and turn them over so convincingly.

“We thought the fourth would have put the game to bed but fair play to Birmingham, they showed good character to keep going.

“They scored one and then got another and then we had to defend well and use our nous to see the game out, but all in all what a great run the players have put together.
