AFC Bournemouth’s victory over Blackburn Rovers set a few new milestones for the Cherries.

Whilst it was the fourth time AFC Bournemouth had beaten Blackburn Rovers, it was the first time in the clubs history that the points had been taken at Ewood Park in a league fixture.

AFC Bournemouth’s victory over Blackburn Rovers was also the Cherries third consecutive victory. Not since Harry Redknapp’s side of 1988 have AFC Bournemouth won three games on the spin in the second tier of English football.

With the Cherries also failing to concede for a third successive match, AFC Bournemouth haven’t conceded a goal in 275 minutes of football. Another feat not seen since November 1988.

The three points lifted AFC Bournemouth to 12th in the Championship table and in contention to also equal or better the sides highest ever league placing of 12th during the 1988-1989 season.

Howe told the Daily Echo

‘…Blackburn are a big side but I felt we rose to the challenge. We were very good physically and then our football shone through. The longer the game went on, the more control we had and I felt we fully deserved the win.

“You are never going to be able to stop it totally and there are always going to be balls coming into your box. But, when they did, our two centre-halves stepped up to the plate and defended for their lives, as did everybody.

‘We are pleased to have won three games on the trot and kept three clean sheets in the process. It is a nice statistic to have matched something achieved by the club in 1988. The most important thing for us was to build on our momentum and get another big win on the board.”
