AFC Bournemouth have announced Maxi Gradel has signed a new 4-year deal extending his stay at Dean Court until the end of the 2020 season.

Gradel returned to Dean Court last year from French side St. Ettiene to play for Eddie Howe’s Cherries in their first ever Premier League campaign.

Gradel’s season was cruelly cut short 4 games into the campaign suffering a cruciate injury in the home game against Leicester. Many expected that to be the last we saw of Maxi until the start of this season, but he was a surprise inclusion in the match day squad against Watford in February making a substitute appearance for Stanislas in the 23rd minute going on to finish the game looking dangerous throughout.

The high point of the season came in the home game against Swansea where Maxi scored the opening goal of a 3-2 win and promptly celebrated on the touch line with Eddie Howe, with it later emerging that Eddie had played a hugely supportive role towards Maxi during his rehabilitation from his cruciate injury.

Gradel told afcb.co.uk

“I’m very very pleased to sign, I’ve seen the club in different ways, as I was here before. It`s amazing to see how it has changed and the progression that has been made, it’s going in the right direction. It’s exciting and of course I want to be part of that.

“The people here have always been good to me and the manager has been fantastic – I really feel at home here.

“I think it’s very important for a player to have a good relationship with the coach, I have a good relationship with the manager here.

“He’s supported me through some tough times and on the pitch, he teaches me different ways to play and that is also very important…”

If I can add my own thoughts to the news, this is a fantastic story to end the day with. Maxi is a hugely popular player from both of his spells here, and has the potential to have a stand out season for the Cherries next season. Signing him in the first place was a real coup for the club, but extending the deal is a real statement of intent from Bournemouth and an endorsement from Gradel that things are developing well behind the scenes. Good to have you onboard Maxi!
