The Cherries returned to winning ways this afternoon with a valuable three point as Bournemouth sunk MK Dons by two goals to nil, the goals coming from Steven Foley and Stephen Cooke – their first league goals.

The match opened with Bournemouth very much in control. An early opportunity for Hayter saw Baker get down well from close range as the Cherries showed their intent from the start. The presents of Steve Fletcher, back to partner Hayter, was clear for all to see, and highlighted a key aspect of our game that has been missing for these past few weeks.

Some brilliant close control and vision from Brian Stock was there for all to see, with Foley sparking some wonderful play down the left, most memorable resulting in a free kick down in the Dons corner after some great control.

The first goal came from a free kick in all too familiar territory. What looked like an obvious Stock opportunity, Foley stepped up and whipped the goal 25-yards past the out-stretcher Baker and nestled into the back of the net on 36 minutes.

The second half played out much like the first. Good inter-play by Bournemouth, and tight defending on a talented MK Dons strike force.

Steven Foley really took the game to the opposition, and his ability down the left really showed today.

Neil Dawson had this too say on the RedNBlack Site – ‘The difference that width makes is it stretches the opposition across the pitch, which with our passing ability makes it a tiring game chasing our movement. Its classic Bournemouth’, which describes this game very well.

The introduction of Cooke in the 71st minute tied the game up, for on 82 it was 2-0. A break from Foley down the left saw him surprisingly pick out Cooke on the opposite side of the penalty box, then all that was needed was for the substitute to take on the last defender and slot past the keeper, which he did with great confidence. 2-0 Cherries.

Plus Points
Width. Really showed up today what we can do when we have ability down the wings, and with Fletch back in the team, it’s all smiles once again.

Ref watch
Not too bad considering recent referees. Some questionable decisions here and there, and a very poor decision to book Fletch in the first half, but other than that the game flowed with little interruption.

In a Nutshell
Great performance. Three valuable and well earned points.
