AFC Bournemouth legend Steve Fletcher has praised striker Brett Pitman following his fourteenth goal of the season.

The Cherries forward hit the winning goal against Colchester on Friday, scoring his fourth goal in as many games to overtake Lewis Grabban as the clubs leading goalscorer this season.

Pitman’s goal ratio since returning from Championship side Bristol City, initially on loan, before making the deal permanent in January, has seen him score 14 goals in 21 league appearances (18 starts).

But despite his goals propelling the Cherries back into the automatic promotion places over the past month, it has been his general play and maturity that has impressed Fletch.

Fletch told the Daily Echo

‘…If Brett had been here since the start of the season and in the form he is in now, I think he would probably have been fighting Matt Ritchie for League One player of the year…’

‘…I think Brett is more of a team player now than he ever was. He works really hard for the team and his work-rate of late has been second to none and that is what has probably impressed me the most.

“His professionalism and decision making has been different class recently.
